The following are stages of language development for toddlers - ranging in age from 2 to 2 1/2 years of age.
Receptive
- Comprehend several action words
- Comprehends the prepositions 'in' and 'under'
- Distinguishes between one and many
- Listens to simple to stories
- ID objects by their use
- Comprehends different sentence structures (e.g. sentence, question, exclamation)
Expressive
- 200-300 word vocabulary
- Ask questions: egocentric in nature
- Says full name
- Uses own syntax (look, me, no)
- Can repeat up to 2 digits
- Uses articles and conjunctions
